On Saturday, February 6, 2016, PLC convened 22 elementary school and preschool teachers in a hands-on professional development session on evidence-based reading strategies that align with and supplement the McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders, K-6 core reading program. In 2013, the Hawaii Department of Education selected the McGraw-Hill reading program that was designed to address the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. The workshop was held at the Pearl Country Club, and it was facilitated by Dr. Diane Baty Gifford who is on faculty with Southern Methodist University’s Annette Caldwell School of Education.
