Professional Development

PLC offers teachers ongoing professional development opportunities that are scaffolded and organized around the goal of ensuring that research-based, effective practices are implemented in schools at sufficient levels and sustained over time to improve student outcomes and teacher effectiveness. PLC provides professional development opportunities through various modes, such as off school-site large group settings as well as learn-on-demand e-Learning courses that are hosted on the Hawaiʻi Department of Education’s Virtual Learning Network; however, central to PLCs approach is its job-embedded model that deploys coaches to schools where teacher learning is grounded in day-to-day teaching practices. PLC’s onsite coaching includes walk-throughs, classroom observations, lesson demonstrations, and data reviews.
