At the 2023 Educational Leadership Institute, the Pacific Literacy Consortium (PLC) teamed with Ka‘ū-Kea‘au-Pāhoa Complex Area (KKP), and 9th Avenue Studios to co-lead a breakout session on their joint venture, Sparx Hawai‘i. Sparx Hawai‘i is a mentoring and leadership development initiative of PLC’s ‘Aha Lamakū ‘Oia‘i‘o (ALO) grant. ALO is one of PLC’s grant funded projects launched in 2020 in partnership with KKP. Sparx Hawai‘i leverages music and art to increase student engagement. It provides structured opportunities for students to tap into their passion, explore both traditional and non-traditional careers, connect with mentors, and demonstrate their learning through real-world experiences. The Sparx team thanks Superintendent Keith Hayashi for attending the entire presentation and acknowledging this year’s Sparx Hawai‘i music showcase winners.
