PLC assembled 65 educators, comprising elementary school teachers and administrators (school-, district-, and state-level), to engage them in a high-interaction professional development session that introduced strategies for helping K to Grade 5 students acquire and use new vocabulary. Dr. Ed Kame`enui, one of the nation’s leading researchers on reading and instructional strategies and support systems, facilitated the all-day session, which equipped teachers with instructional strategies designed to develop children’s understanding of multiple-meaning words/phrases, figurative language, word relationships (e.g., spatial, temporal).
