Across four days, PLC brought together 39 participants, comprising teachers and administrators, from 11 project sites. Collectively, the sessions focused on evidence-based practices for teaching reading to struggling students. The objective of the workshop was to increase teacher-participant’s knowledge and skills in (1) phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency instruction; (2) explicit and systematic reading instruction; (3) enhancing lessons in Wonders and other core reading programs to reach diverse learners; and (4) English Language Arts Foundational strand of the Common Core State Standards. The workshop trainers were Ann Watanabe and Karen Akiyama-Paik (co-founders of Teach Well, Inc.).
