PLC convened 60 participants, comprised of teachers and administrators, in a professional development training called Best Practices in Reading, Mathematics, and Positive Behavior Supports. The training was facilitated by national and international experts in the field of education who have substantive theoretical and practical knowledge of the subject matter. The following are the presenters as well as the topics on which they presented:
• Kathleen Jungjohann (University of Oregon)—Incorporating Evidence-Based Practices to Improve the Outcomes of Students Struggling in Mathematics
• Ann Watanabe and Karen Akiyama-Paik (Teach Well Inc.)—Explicit, Systematic Instruction;
• Joanna Dunn (HIDOE School Library Services)—Navigating the Online Courses: Accessing and Utilizing The Blackboard System
• Morris Lai (University of Hawai‘i, CRDG)—Hawaiian Brilliance, Disdain From the Mainstream [sic], and the Legacy of Pihana Nā Mamo
• Edward Kame‘enui (University of Oregon)—Vocabulary and Comprehension Strategies: Current Research and Best Practices
• Luanna Meyer (Victoria University, NZ)—Restorative Classroom Discipline: Creating Welcoming and Responsible School Communities
