Ka Manao PonoThe Pacific Literacy Consortium (PLC) team recently published its latest teacher resource, Ka Manaʻo Pono Hawaiʻi No Nā Kumu Kula Aupuni—Helpful Native Hawaiian Hints for Public Elementary School Teachers. Written in a simple, yet compelling, talk-story format, void of ephemeral education jargon, Kumu Lilette Liliakala Subedi shares manaʻo from her own experiences relevant to teaching and learning in Hawaiʻi public elementary schools. Ka Manaʻo Pono will provide teachers with practical insights to help guide their work, especially the efforts of those who serve in schools with large numbers of Native Hawaiian students. According to Kumu Subedi, “Teacher induction is vitally important in creating the palette of hues, or filling a toolbox, that will assist both new and practicing educators in honing their craft and guiding their students toward the many levels of successful achievement.” Adding to Ka Manaʻo Pono’s rich content are numerous ʻOlelo Noʻeau excerpts from the work of esteemed kupuna, Mary Kawena Pukui. This publication was funded by PLC’s Piha Pono project. It adds to PLC’s 13 previously published works of which over 58,000 copies have been disseminated throughout the state of Hawaiʻi.
