PLC engaged the services of Dr. Ruth Kaminski (author of the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills
[DIBELS]) to help facilitate school-team discussions around the use of student-, classroom-, and school-level data collected no less than three-times a year through DIBELS Next procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills, kindergarten through third grade. There were 37 teachers, comprising 10 schools, who attended the workshop that offered advanced training in the use of DIBELS Next data in schools implementing a multi-tiered (Response to Intervention) approach. Kaminski guided school-team discussions around using data to match students to resources, group students for instruction, select materials for progress monitoring, and evaluate the effectiveness of instruction. Teams referenced their own data during the discussion and planning exercises.
