For the second consecutive summer, PLC teamed with LMS to develop and launch the HIDOE’s second statewide #808Reads summer challenge. PLC and LMS continue to leverage the support of Beanstack, which is an online commercial application that makes it easy for users to register, track reading, and gain data-driven insights. Although the challenge is statewide, each school library has its own individual website where students can track books read and time spent reading them. This summer, 161 schools and 1,867 students participated in the #808Reads summer challenge, which accounted for 864,667 minutes logged by student participants. PLC produced the following #808Reads promotional video that features local artist, Pōmaika‘i Keawe Lyman, and children’s book author, Gabriel Ahuli‘i.
