PLC convened 40 participants, comprised of teachers and administrators, in a four-day professional development training called Building Foundational Reading Skills (BFRS). The BFRS training focused on explicit and systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. It also addressed monitoring student progress to inform instruction, and providing tailored interventions for struggling readers.
