For the fifth consecutive year, PLC partnered with the Hawai‘i Department of Education’s School Library Media Services to lead key aspects of the 2024 Statewide School Library Conference. This annual event took place at the Prince Hotel on August 8 and 9, 2024. The conference featured keynote messages by Matthew Luhn, a renowned storyboard artist, animator, and former director for Pixar and The Simpsons, and Joanna Christodoulou, a neuroscientist and professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at MGH Institute of Health Professions. They were joined by a lineup of distinguished local and national leaders in the field who facilitated interactive breakout sessions, discussions, and workshops.

The event kicked off with an inspiring opening address from Dr. Teri Ushijima, Assistant Superintendent, who delivered a powerful message to the 130 attendees. The audience included school librarians, principals, teachers, district representatives, and state-level staff.

PLC recognizes and supports school librarians’ crucial role in creating a comprehensive educational experience beyond traditional classroom boundaries. Each year, PLC collaborates closely with librarians to ensure they are equipped to meet the evolving needs of students, teachers, and the wider school community.
